Welcome!
Personal Cultural Analysis Every culture in the world has Universals - these are items that every culture has and the particulars are what differ and make each unique. The Personal Cultural Analysis will ask you about SOME examples of particulars (there's 70+). Remember that not every question may need to be answered. If you answer one and two, you will skip question three. If you answer question one, you might skip two and go to the three; it'll depend on you and your own life. At the end of answering the questions, you'll need to think about your answers and see if there's anything you might have a bias about because of one of your answers. The presentation is to come after the initial analysis is turned in. Remember you can share your presentation with the class or you can opt not to, the choice is up to you.
Fairy Tale ProjectLater in this Unit we will learn about norms, folkways, and mores. One early method that societies, both in the past and present, have used to socialize children to the norms, folkways, and mores is using fairy tales to teach the lessons. On Friday a website was shared that has fairy tales from around the world. Some things to keep in mind - a) Make sure it is elementary school appropriate (we share these projects with Costner Elementary, where we would usually be volunteering; they are on a device in the library so kids can read along with you in your project), b) make sure it has enough of a tale that it isn't too short in retelling (your finished product should be 3-5 minutes, if the fairy tale is only a paragraph you either need to add a lot or will lose points on your final grade (this is a test grade), and c) make sure it is something you can modernize. Think Gnomeo and Juliet is a fiction that has lawn gnomes playing the Shakespear Drama in modern times/langage.
